Liz and Royal Robbins started the Royal Robbins company after they were unable to find clothing to meet the needs of their active lifestyle - kayaking, climbing, taught skiing, and more!  As a professional rock-climber and respected contributor to the sport, Royal Robbins’ was of the firm belief that outdoor enthusiasts should use as little equipment (gear, tools, equipment) to enjoy the outdoors as possible.  This only further increased his belief in creating quality clothing to help others participate in outdoor recreation with the greatest possible satisfaction out of the items they did use.

One of the keystones for the Royal Robbins clothing design is the Billy Goat short - for both men and women.  A durable, reliable, and comfortable trekking short, it symbolizes the same principles in clothing design Liz and Royal were aiming for when they first began designing clothing in 1975. 

The entire Royal Robbins clothing line, for men and women, stems from the success and general design factors inherent in the Billy Goat short.
